As
I have been working on writing my own news stories each week, I have been
trying to focus on being direct. The shift from creative writing to news
writing is forcing me to distill down to the most important information and
avoid flourishing with unnecessarily wordy phrasing. In attempt to learn to do
this better, I have noticed how articles in The Globe are written. It seems
that most of these are written in a way that avoids repetition and uses a
structure that groups ideas together based on their relation to each other. Additionally,
I am trying to writing in a more conversational way, because I have a tendency
to use double the words I need to say something simple. Thinking about it as a
more conversational writing has helped me focus on being straightforward.
